In the metallurgical process, the composition of the slag has a very important influence on the cleanliness of molten steel. The highly oxidizing slag that enters the ladle after the tapping of the converter will continue to transfer oxygen to the molten steel, which seriously affects the yield of aluminum and the cleanliness of the molten steel. This is due to the higher content of unstable oxides such as FeO and MnO. In the end, it can lead to nozzle clogging and defective surface of sheet material.
Based on the current secondary refining technology, submerged arc heating, bottom blowing, and slagging have become the most important means to control the cleanliness during the refining period. Pre-melted refining slag is used in the tapping process. And in the desulfurization process, we can take advantage of the dynamic conditions of tapping to complete part of the desulfurization task during the tapping process, which can reduce the sulfur content of the molten steel. The pre-melted refining slag after mixing and punching has strong desulfurization capacity in the converter and LF refining processes.
